Picture Time!

Boy, I’ve been posting here a lot, even though I don’t have a lot to show for my knitting lately. I’ve been trying to get more things done, because I miss taking the time to work on projects. Knitting really is a form of relaxation for me, even when I’m initially stressing about getting the gusset started on a sock! (That’s the part I hate in doing a sock. Once I have that gusset established, it’s all smooth sailing before and after that.)

While the one photo I have here is not a sock, the initial formation of it is similar. While it’s not a glove, it is more like a hand sock or sorts. I’ve made this pattern twice before. I don’t understand why it’s copyrighted, or whatever. While it’s a free pattern, once you’ve done it once, you think, “Huh, why didn’t I think of this?” and wonder why you can’t sell, like a bunch of these at some craft show because of that darn copyright. You can’t even pay the designer money to be able to sell them yourself. I don’t get it.

Anyway, as I mentioned, having a husband who wants nothing as far as gifts for holidays or birthdays, and he just had a birthday pass by, I can’t give him nothing, so I started these up on his actual birthday and finished them last week. They are in typical JC colors, and they are useful because he said that now that the weather is changing, it still tends to get a little cold in his office at work, and he needs to be able to use his fingers, after all! So, without further ado, here’s JC’s Wrist Warmers!

JC's Bday present
Don’t these look good?

He seems happy with them. They were made with some yarn in my stash, Red Heart Super Saver in Painted Desert (I think that was the name of the color), and I have a ton of it left still. I could probably make a matching hat or something like that with what I have left, but alas, I have a million other projects that need finishing…and photographing! ;-) The pattern is Voodoo Wrist Warmers from Knitty.com, and if you even a beginner who just figured out DPNs or knitting in the round with 2 circs, it’s SUPER simple to do.

Now, as soon as I finish a pair of socks I am working on, I’ll be able to free up my needles and go back to work on a pair of mittens I started for Drew last year, but didn’t finish. There wasn’t a rush to finish, because by the time I got started on them, then it was spring and too warm. But I’m sure I’ll make up for that! Mittens are just socks for your hands…kind of. The new challenge, which I haven’t done yet, is figure out gusset and knitting for the thumb part. That should be interesting….stay tuned….

  1. Nice looking wrist warmers. I will have to add them to my queue.

I don’t get it about copywrighting common patterns. I’ve seen at least 4 different patterns in which people have claimed copyright on a simple garter stitch scarf.
