See! I’ve still been knitting!

Actually, I’m still working on my dad’s vest. It’s a little longer to work on that, but it’s getting there.

But today, I felt inspired to do a quickie project. And I got it done PDQ! I have had a skein of Phoenix Soy Silk ribbon yarn sitting on my desk for a while now. I purchased it when I went on that trip to the LYS in Pennington with my friend Sandy. This little ball was worth $12.95 (before tax and tags), and I got it in the clearance bin for $1. Yes, you read that right, a dollar! So, this soft ribbony, off white yarn has been sitting, waiting for just the right project - until today.

I don’t know what inspired me, but I decided to make a headband for my hair. I’d been thinking about it for a while anyway, thinking I’d try to find something a little fancier to do, but today, I ended up going with something very basic, and it turned out great.

All I did was cast on 8 stitches, which made it about 1-1 1/2 inches wide, and just garter-stitched the whole thing. At times it looked like a knit 80s skinny tie, hee hee. I used another stretchy fabric headband as a guide to determine how long to make it. at the end, I picked up stitches where I cast on, and then did a kitchener stitch to complete the circle and bind the ends together securely, rather than just mattress stitch the ends together. The result was great! It’s soft, it feels a lot like linen but softer, and it fits perfectly, better than any other fabric-like headband I have. I really like it.

Lookie!

Here’s it a little further back, in my quickly fading shade of the month. I think it actually gives a little better detail here.

It was a really quick project to do. I’m sure I could’ve done something with a cable or some other pattern or rib or something, but this was fine, and it looks pretty cool. I’m happy with it.

Like I said– see? I’ve still been knitting! Now back to that sweater vest!
