Finally, a finished project!
I’ve been working on a few things - okay, two things - lately. One has been a more recent endeavor, and the other was something I started a while ago and was doing off and on. I’m not sure when I started the latter of the two projects. I think I might have started it either right after we moved or right before we moved, but it’s been a while. I haven’t done something for the home for a while, so I present to you…..purple pillow!
It was made with Lion Brand chunky chenille in..well, purple. The stitch is a simple seed stitch. What was nice about working with this yarn was that if I did make a mistake, it’s hard to spot unless you really look for it.
But, at the same token, when I had to seam it up, it was hard to find the stitches so to sew it up properly, but again, being that it’s almost mistake-proof, it still looks good. I have to say that I’m rather proud of this simple pillow. I think the seed stitch looks really cool because of the additional texture that the stitch itself brings to the project. I mean, the chenille is pretty soft as it is, but add the texture of something that’s a little bumpy too..I think it’s neat.
And it’s a huge improvement over the first pillow I tried to make almost exactly 2 years ago. That was the first time I tried to do a freeform pattern on my own, and I didn’t know what the hell I was doing then. I mean, I still make mistakes with things, but at that time, I’d only been knitting for about 2-3 months.
The pillow form inside of this is the same size as the purple pillow! The case that I made for this one way back when was just too big, and my judgement on gauge and measuring and all that was WAY off, so I just ended up sewing it together haphazardly. Since then, it’s been washed and loved, and it’s got pulls in it and has stretched out a little further. But, it’s comfy. JC keeps telling me that I should frog it (love that he uses knitting lingo now!) and make it again, but again with that “mistake proof” seaming that I did, I can’t tell where the seams are to splice them and start over.
So, it stays, and will be a reminder of how much I’ve improved in two years.
In other news, it was nice to see that JC was wearing the sweater jacket that I had made him this fall yesterday and today! It seems to be perfect for this in-between winter and spring weather. I do look at it, and see the flaws in it, (mostly seaming issues, I do seem to have problems with that), and the fact that I had to adjust the sleeves as they were too long, but other than that, it looks like a flawless work of art.
I’m glad he’s willing to wear it!
Still going to MDSW in May…did any of the Knitsters figure out what we are doing for Saturday night? Are we all bunking together closer to the event, or closer to the DC area? Let me know…I’m one of those people who likes to plan ahead and know where I’m going to be for the night. Email me at dani at knitster dot org.
Hopefully I’ll have the attempt at a shrug done soon– before spring is over, I hope!
