Many WIPs, and new projects, too.

Look! After too long of a silence, I return with the news that - well, I’m still knitting and I’ve actually finished something. *shock*

I’ve had a difficult time carving out space to knit that doesn’t involve my beloved pain in the butt delightful feline, Squeegee, being all up in my yarn. I have a WIP that’s been going and going for a while now - I call it the Big Red Tongue - it’s a simple triangle shawl knitted on large needles with a lacy YO edge. The yarn is Patons Divine in a wispy deep red, and for all the world it looks like a tongue.

I have been working on it forever, because every time the cat’s asleep and I pull it out to knit on, HE WAKES UP. I swear there’s some sort of magic call with this yarn! This means that I can only work it effectively when I’m out, and sometimes I don’t feel like being covered in wispy bits… so I started another project. This one’s a scarf made with Patons SWS - I swear I’m not shilling for Patons, I just really wanted to try out this soy/wool blend!

This scarf is really simple, also - I started out with a band of five ridges made by alternating rows of 3k, then 3p, then dropped into your basic stockinette. I never follow patterns, so this will go until I’m tired of doing it. :D

Speaking of never following patterns, I did manage to make one FO - a garter stitched soap bag, for holding your soap in the shower. I should have some photos of all these things, FO and UFO, shortly.

And my new project isn’t knitting at all, although it will be a nice addition to my knitted items! I just started taking up needle felting, and I’m really loving it! It is a magnificent stress reducer [jab jab jab jab] and makes wonderful little objects. I’ve made a small felted bowl and I’m working on a flower for a brooch. Again, photos when I get them posted up.

Ah, ’tis nice to be posting again.

  1. I’ve been seeing a lot of really cool needle-felted accents on things lately. I think I’m going to give it a try when I start designing/making handbags. Can’t wait to see the finished results!

  2. Needle felting is amazingly easy and addictive, and once I started doing it, a million ideas for embellishment popped into my head. I’ve already hooked two people on it already! I think it is the roving - so soft and open to possibility… it lures you in. [also, it is an inexpensive side hobby]

I’ll try and get some photos up in just a bit!
