*sigh*
iknow that our little corner of the blog world doesn’t get much traffic. maybe because we lack the star quality of the rest of the knitterati. but there are some pretty amazing people here.
having said that, i am seriously disappointed in my knitting bretheren on a certain site. upset enough that i am coming here. a good friend of mine was flamed for a pattern submitted to knitty.
and here is where i step up on my soapbox-
when you get something for free, you are not paying for it. which means, apparently, it makes it just fine to flame it all to hell and gone. that bugs me. i am of the school of don’t like it, don’t look/buy/read/watch/complain about it. while i can see points, this person was asked to make that pattern up for knitty. it was not something she just did to pimp her own handspun yarns, but a request to show a practical application of said yarn in a demo tutorial she did.
for this, she is being torn apart by critics. i see no reason for it. and i hear all the time about crappy patterns, bad writting. where is the praise? the wonderful patterns you find? are we as americans taking the entitlement a bit far? is all of this whining a reflection of the state of our nation? i am beginning to think so.
so- some sites and patterns i love……
colinette. anything by them is eye candy. i collect the pattern books and dream of making things- i have a cardigan on the needles.
pippikneesocks.com- check out her fantastic handspun yarns. amazing.
knitty. knitty has a great spread of patterns. something for everyone.
i will add more as i find them. in the meantime, before you snark or speak badly of someone- think of context. think of a constructive way to say things. don’t just join in to trash- that is not the way to be. rise above it. ugh- i think i sound like my mom now.

I so need to update the links here. Do I have you kicked up enough in admin points that you can do that directly, or do you want to? I need to get back on the ball with that…
and pooh on snarky elitist ppl. we are so happy to have you here as our resident veteran knitter, as xiane, dani and I are all relative newcomers. you’ve helped us out a bunch.
I agree with Helen totally. As a novice knitter, I have learned a lot from the things you’ve posted. I don’t snark at patterns - sometimes what yarns and colourways people use, but never the patterns. I figure that there are patterns for all sorts of people, and as long as it is written well and clearly, then I’ll hold my peace if I don’t like it.
I’ll think of some places where I’ve enjoyed the patterns. I second Knitty as a recommendation… although a lot of their patterns are a bit advanced for me, they give me something for which to strive.
thank you for your love support and understanding.
it has really meant a TON! as i slowly get over this, i’m just starting to laugh. and see how stooooopid these people are; and what they aren’t seeing is how the pattern was written to go with the aritlce, and yada yada yada. aye.
thanks again!
Well, I guess I’m the last to chime in here, but yeah, snarking is not nice. And like you said, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you don’t like it, you just say, “Don’t like it” and leave it at that. Nothing more is needed. Knitty always has something different and a variety of things on the skill scale, so I like looking there too. And if there are mistakes in the pattern, it could be a) typos/misprints and b) I see it as an opportunity to learn. If something is wrong, and I don’t find corrections, I’ve probably made a mistake along the way, or if the corrections haven’t been determined yet, then it forces me to use my brain and figure out a way to fix it. If that’s not learning knitting by trial and error, I don’t know what is!
Oh, aaaamen, sister. Like there isn’t ENOUGH negativity in this world. Sheesh.
