Wood is good

While I haven’t written here much lately, (oy, my life is too crazy right now, believe me!), I am still finding time now and then to squeeze in some knitting time, and work on that Yarn Girls’ cable knit tank top. The back is done, and I started on the front, and started to understand how the cable worked, as mentioned in my last posting. But I found that the cable needle I had, which was one of those thin wire-like ones, didn’t suffice, and the stitch holder I was using instead wasn’t much better. I tried some other gadgets, but nothing was really working. So, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a good set of wooden cable needles, as I had read in numerous places that those were really the best to help prevent the stitches from slipping and all. I ordered the set along with some discounted sock yarn from KnitPicks, and it arrives. OH MY GOSH. It makes a huge difference using this kind of cable needle instead of that Boye one. I am defnitely a convert to the wooden cable needles. Since I really hadn’t gotten that far, I frogged the whole front half again, and started over, this time using the new wooden cable needle exclusively. It looks SO much better now, and the first “X” of the cable looks great. I’m trying to get rows done when I can, but time has been so limited this week. I am hoping that I can work on it while I am killing time at the TKD tournament on Saturday, and make some headway. After that big ol’ blanket for baby Jack (my new nephew), this seems to fly by!
