In the home stretch…

I’m in the final stages of the baby blanket for my sister’s baby, who is due 3 weeks from today. I just have one more pattern section to do, and the final border, and then I’m done! HOORAY! There are goof ups left and right in this thing, but heck, it’s handmade, she can’t complain. That’s what will make it unique– the mistake in it. Overall, it’s looking good. I realized a week ago that the full pattern calls for 7 repeats — not 5–of the pattern line, and well, I’m tired of doing this blanket. I consulted some of my other knitting books to get an idea of what the average baby blanket size was, and I realized that with the size of the blanket with 5 repeats, it would be average baby blanket size, so it will be fine. Thus, I am on that last, fifth section. FINALLY. While it’s a cute and generally an easy pattern, I don’t think I’m generally cut out to make blankets and afghans. It takes WAY too long. I might even still have yarn leftover– quite a bit– when this is done, so maybe I’ll make a quick little matching cap and/or baby socks to coordinate with it. It’s amazing how far that “Pound of Love” yarn went! I mean, the yarn ball is still pretty sizable, and I’m guessing that the original ball is now down at least half way, if not 2/3rd of the way. If I am persistent, I should be able to finish this week. I completed the separating border on Friday while watching the ATA World Championship Opening Ceremonies via the WWW (I love the Internet!), and worked yesterday and today on it, and have gotten 8 more rows of the repeat done. Only 28 to go before getting to the end, then 10 more rows of border, then VOILA! Of course, I still have to wash it and make sure I put lots of Downy in it. ;-) (Ah, the beauty of acrylic!). I’m just glad that this blanket is almost done. Then I can move onto something else….but I don’t know what yet!
