ok, a real knitting content update and praise for the weekend

so…..

saturday, april 29th was the minnesota knitters’ guild’s 20th annual yarnover. it was spectacular. the day started early for me- on the planning committee- wet and rainy. the keynote speaker was the wonderful lucy neatby. she spoke of the design process. absolutely wonderful. of course, i had a class with her- the first cut is the deepest, all about steeking. eek! and yes, i have cut my knitting. and i liked it. a wonderful class, and lucy was an absolutely fantastic instructor. i have no fear of knitting and scissors, and know how to cut properly and with ease. and i learned some new tricks. always a good thing.

then lunch and the vendor’s market. since this is minnesota, and minneapolis/st paul, we have a wealth of yarn shops, all of them offering unique things. i found joslyn’s fiber farm, www.joslynsfiberfarm.com, who had beautiful lace-weight and sock-weight yarn. i got a 50/50 wool silk lace weight for a shawl- 2500 yards for $42.00, an amazing deal. she even has sock, scarf and shawl clubs- check her out, the yarn is amazing! and found a few things that are to become something, some more euroflax linen, and a couple of things i can’t remember.

my afternoon class was a color in lace class, with jackie erickson-schweitzer- i will post her website later. another great class. i got a refresher in color theory(always a good thing), and learned a great technique for color changes that uses an applied i-cord edging. for a dedicated lace knitter like me, it was inspirational. both classes were. i have more ideas for patterns coming up all the time.

it really was an amazing day. the best part was dinner afterwards, where i got to meet one of my favorite designers, annie modesitt(she did the pin-up girl sweater in snb)!!!!! she was amazing, and so nice to talk to. she even lived in my home town. it was amazing- at that table were at least 5 well-known knitter/designers. and i got to talk to them. i am a really lucky knitter right now!

so i hope that you all had a great weekend. and check out some of these sites- i am absolutely impressed with joslyn’s yarn- i can’t wait to get it on the needles!
