First tech geek, now dweeb

OK, unless you are into the craft that we all know and love on this website, the rest of the world would think I’m a total dweeb for being excited about my find today.

I’ve been playing with the idea of dying my own yarn for a while, a la the Kool Aid method. I have a good hank of Lion Brand Fisherman’s Yarn that’s been sitting in my stash for a while, asking me to wash and prep it for dying. But until recently, I have not been actively looking for Kool Aid packets. I like the idea of the Kool Aid method because you can play with the colors, and they are non toxic (good for being around little kids), and it’s CHEAP. So, I’ve been looking in Walmart, Target, most of the local supermarkets. I even emailed Kraft which makes Kool Aid, and can’t find it. I finally go to one last supermarket in West Windsor (NJ), the only Acme in the area, and lo and behold, KOOL AID PACKETS! I bought every color they had, and spent $4.17 altogether (including tax). I feel like this is such a score! See, you don’t understand, I looked EVERYWHERE, and here it was at this one lonely supermarket on Rt. 571. While I can’t get straight to dying right away, I just feel so excited that I finally found this stuff, and that I can start playing with dye colors to make my own colorways. Sweet-cool! :-)

  1. the kool aid was hard to find here- that i why i switched to the procion dyes. kool aid just doesn’t give me the saturation that i like- but it is so much fun to play with. craft stores just need to break down and stock it.
