cold, cold night

it is a whopping -35 outside- if you include the windchill. and i have two sick kids, and of course, mom is sick. so one would think that i have been knitting up a storm. or spinning. or something.
no. but- i have got my second hot lava about 2/3 of [...]

This made me laugh

In searching for what new knitting books were going to be published on the horizon, I came across this book, and its title made me laugh, no matter how apropos it is:

Knitting With Balls : The First Contemporary Guide To Knitting For The Modern Male

I mean, I have no problem with men knitting at all– [...]

Tubey!

Well, Tubey is a great project for doing in front of the Tube, while watching Olympics. After several projects where I’ve been challenging myself to do fancy stuff, it’s hard to mess up stockinette, and so I hammered out the requisite 21.5 inches of flat stockinette in two days and put them on the dpns [...]

It rhymes with Fox

No, it’s not ham hocks, or locks, but yes, you guessed it, socks. And that’s what I’m going to attempt next. I’m almost done the first full row of pattern for the baby blanket I started, and it’s looking good, but I think that considering that it’s going to take a while to complete that [...]

grrrrrr

so last night i decided after cabling for hours and getting, oh, about 4 inches done that i needed knitting instant gratification. so i started lacey from knitty in mmohair. it is a mottled purple/pink/maroon/something blend. that looks kinda like, well, i think you might be able to guess.
anyways- i had [...]

Accidental Olympian

Well, I did cast on a project during the opening ceremony–Tubey, to be exact. On my third attempt at the provisional crochet cast-on, I succeeded and went scurrying off in stockinette, only to find that I had miscounted the cast-on and only cast on 58 st instead of 60. I feel like such a tard [...]

hah. take that.

once again, i hit gauge with no swatching.
that’s all.

isaid rip it, rip it good

i had to frog the cuff of my cabled hoodie this afternoon. the gauge was off, i t was sloppy, and i hated it. now i have knit much tighter- it’s on gauge, and looks great.
and then i got the hiccoughs. it is really hard to knit when your body is convulsing [...]

stop me

i think i need to stop buying yarn. really.
in the past two days i have gotten enough lamb’s pride bulky in lotus pink for a sweater for dd, some blackberry harrisville yarns for a cabled hoodie for me and some mohair for a lace shrug. that does not incluse the 5oz of camel [...]

Patterns, patterns, patons

Helen here–I’m thinking about starting a sweater for real when I’m done with the blanket. Bear in mind that I’ve never ever pulled off a successful garment that isn’t worn on the foot or around the neck. The hat came close, but it doesn’t fit right.
Anyways. So then I see Tubey from knitty.com and it [...]
