It’s all Helen’s fault…maybe
Just kidding.
I finally have a current project, and it happens to be working on a small yellow blanket. Sound familiar? The difference is that she is doing cool cables on hers (I’ve seen it in progress), and mine is more like making patterns with moss/seed stitches. Also, she did not choose the bright yellow for hers (her stepdaughter did), and I did choose the baby pastel yellow for this one (it was a good neutral baby color for a boy or a girl, I figured.) So far, it’s not a total success, but not a total disaster either. I’m not used to working with charts. It’s good practice for real intarsia, that’s for sure. I’ve already goofed up on it, so hopefully as I get the hang of this, a) the mistakes in this first row of patterns doesn’t look too awful, and b) the subsequent rows will be greatly improved. At least it’s keeping me busy.

Hey, you’re not mixing intarsia with stranding, are you? Intarsia uses bobbins of yarn because you end up going back and forth, but stranding means you’re twisting the yarn behind the work–but in terms of what you get, stranding (of which fair isle is an example of) is a hella lot more similar to pattern stitches than intarsia, which is worked in rows.
The starfish I posted a few months ago was intarsia, and the hat was stranding.
For the record, I have frogged the first attempt at every project I’ve done.
But someone who saw my blanket the other day said that she hadn’t realized what an advanced knitter I was. I’m almost done with the third ball of yarn now, which means I’m just about 3/4 done. But it’s gotten so big I can’t carry it with me easily.
