What was I thinking?
In a stab at doing something different and new, and trying to have some project in hand, I started a little strawberry hat for JC’s cousin’s daughter, Marlist, who will be two in March. It’s been terrible, but it’s all in the learning process. I’m not sure if I’m going to frog the whole thing or not. Probably not. The hat is listed here: Strawberry Hat
For me, it was two things being learned, namely knitting in the round and early intarsia. Well, it took a little bit to get the knitting in the round part. The hardest part was joining the two ends and even with a stitch marker keeping track of where the whole thing started. I was about 18 rows in when I discovered I was making a mobius piece instead of a hat, so I had to frog the whole thing and start over. After a more successful start, then it was a matter of putting the “seeds” in, and I didn’t do that very well. Somewhere along the way I also dropped a stitch, and was never able to fully recover from that. I tried fixing it, but it messed something up along the way. Once I got to the leaves, it was a little better. I’m about to finish the darn thing, and it’s not the best looking thing I’ve done, but again, it’s all part of the learning curve. Photos to follow when it’s all done and I have time to upload them to the ‘puter and post them.
Well, at least I can say that I figured out how to do something new!
In the meantime, I discovered that the local yarn chain, Treasure Island, is going under. Right now, yarn is 30% off, so I got some pale yellow “Pound of Love” baby yarn, and some white and cream baby yarn as well, thinking ahead to my sister’s baby. Maybe I’ll try to make that bunting again with the yellow Pound of Love stuff. I’ll have to see. And to think, I was going to try to bust my stash, but I’ve done some buying lately, and I have to stop, really, I do.

Grr! I thought I responded to this last night. Was going to say–intarsia is much easier done flat!!!
Well, after that project, I don’t doubt it! I think I’ve figured that intarsia is really not that bad, as long as you can keep track of where you are at in your chart/pattern. Right now I’m doing something that isn’t intarsia, but creating patterns by changing stitches, and as much as I think I’m following things carefully I’m still goofing up! Oh well. Guess that’s part of the learning process.
