Can’t wait for the scarf to be done

While I love my friend Lynn, I’m dreading this scarf that I’m making her. It’s almost done, really. I’ve made a few mistakes that I really didn’t feel like ripping down to fix (I did that a few times already much to my chagrin), but they aren’t SO bad, I don’t think. It’ll just show that it’s homemade, methinks. But I’m tired of just doing rows and rows of the same thing, seed/moss stitch over and over just to make a longer rectangle. Adding the extra ball’s worth of yarn will make it really good, in the end, so I’m glad that I got the extra. I hope I can finish it up soon so I can start working on something else.

I had started a baby blanket for my sister, but I didn’t like how I was going about it. I had cast on 200 stitches on a ginormous circ I had made with my Denises and #13 needles. Bleeah. Didn’t like that. Although I did try cabling, and at least I got the hang of how to do that initial cable stitch, I think. I have to try it on something less boucle’/Homespun like to see the results. I’ll try a different basic blanket with that yarn, or perhaps make something else. I’ll figure it out.

As I joined that book club of Crafter’s Choice, I have now fulfilled my book obligation with getting a copy of “The Yarn Girls’ Guide To Beyond the Basics”. I’ve been waiting to get this, and had hoped that someone would get it for me for Christmas, but didn’t, so I got it as the Editor’s Choice for this month. I just received it today, and it was worth the wait. I had already scanned it in the stores to be sure it was something I’d like, but looking it over more carefully, I can see it being a really good book to have about. The descriptions of some of the techniques were very clear, and I liked the patterns they used to introduce intarsia and cabling. Nothing too complicated, but really cute and big needle stuff, which I always like for the purpose of semi-instant gratification. So maybe I’ll do something out of that.

Which reminds me, I got a second copy of “Stitch N’ Bitch” for Christmas, and while I was appreciative of getting a copy, as mine is out on loan, I’m trading it for a large flowerpot of some sort that my MIL got, and I offered to trade the flowerpot (sight unseen) for the book. She jumped at the chance. It just reminds me that I have to get my original copy back from the person who borrowed it! Been looking at a few patterns from that book as well…hmm….

  1. Do they have a thing where if you get one of your friends to sign up, you get additional books? I’d be interested in getting one of those “for a friend” offers, if so.

  2. Yes, they do, and I actually saved the card at one point (I had it on my desk when you were here and completely forgot!), and I have to search my desk again to see if I still have it from the last mailing. If I don’t, I’ll be sure to send it when I get the next mailing, and forward it to you. ;-)

  3. you can send me one too..
did you finish that scarf yet???
