2006– A New Year of Knitting
2005 was the year of knitting for me. Well, I’m sure for Helen too, but she started in 2004, whereas I started around the end of February/beginning of March 2005. For me, what a year it’s been! I learned to knit and purl at ALL, and now Helen and I are knitting buddies (she was my inspiration to start in the first place, and I still don’t know what possessed me to try), writing this blog, and taking on new projects and skills as we go along. Not too shabby for a pair of hooligans like us!
Along with my other goals/resolutions of things I want to do this year, I do want to increase some of my skills. I’ve made some clothing items for babies and adults, and now I want to slowly get into more complicated stuff, or at least complicated to me. So, in the next year, I want to figure out how to do cabling, intarsia, making socks/mittens at all, whether it’s with DPNs or circulars (although I hear the latter is the easier way to go), and make something really extraordinary things. Maybe I’ll even venture into felting and spinning, but first things first. I have some major stash busting to do first.
Right now, I’m still working on the seed/moss stitch scarf for Lynn. It’s looking good, with the exception of a few mistakes. I’ve frogged and still make a few mistakes, but I’m not too worried about it. It’s one thing if you make a mistake which carries through a few rows, and it’s another to have one stitch off somewhere. It’ll just show how handmade it is. Due the color, it’s gorgeous. And I think once it’s blocked, it’ll look a little better too. I’ve also cast on for a baby blanket to make for my sister, but since I’ve only cast on and knit one row, I might frog the whole thing and start over, I’m not sure. I cast on 200 stitches on this thing, so I admit I’m making it oddly, but hey, nobody’s perfect. I’m making it up as I go along.
So, here’s to 2006– and learning new skills and techniques to make cooler stuff!
