Drew and his rainbows
If you ask my son what his favorite color is, he always says, “Rainbow”. I find that on the rare occasion that he accompanies me to look at yarn, he is always drawn to the multi-colored yarns. Always. So yesterday, I was at the local Treasure Island, and found this Paton’s Quick & Cozy yarn that was PERFECT rainbow color. Instead of continuing on my 2nd sleeve of my cardigan (which I really should be doing), I made him a little hat instead. For once, I can say that I did a design all by myself without the pattern and figured out the gauge myself. I think the gauge part was the bigger demon, as it usually is, but I measured his head, did a swatch on a pair of needle that I chose at random, figured out the gauge, frogged the swatch, and started in on the hat. I think I could’ve made it a little longer, but it came out to a decent sized skull cap, and I remembered the basics enough that it came out just right. He seems to be happy with it enough that he tried to go to sleep with it on. (But took it off later.) So, I think it’s official, that I know how to make a hat without the pattern in hand now– at least a basic one! ![]()
