I learned how to do—what? Heaven Forbid!

Yes, I think I finally got the hang of the basics. Of crocheting, that is. I know, I know! How could I abandon knitting? I haven’t at all. If anything, I’ve come to appreciate knitting much more. I only taught myself some crocheting techniques– namely how to do a single chain, and then where to go from there– just the basics, really. I did this because a) Deb Stoller of Stitch N Bitch says that every knitter should know some basics, b) although I didn’t figure it out from her book, she’s right because I have a few items where I was supposed to crochet an edge to it, and either didn’t do it or haven’t gotten to that part of the pattern yet, and c) well, why not expand one’s fiber arts knowledge? I have one crochet book, 2 crochet magazines, and another crochet book on the way. BUT THAT’S IT. I promise. While I do like the sturdiness of a crocheted piece (or at least of the little swatch I made today), I really prefer knitting and purling much better. I have a lot more techniques to learn in knitting still, but at least me teaching myself crocheting shows that I have a knack for this sort of thing overall, and should learn more.

The sweater I’m working on is supposed to be finished off with a crocheted edge, so now I feel confident enough that I’m not going to screw up the sweater. Besides, I’ve worked too darn hard on it to have some crocheted edge stop me now or ruin it for me now!

Don’t worry, I am still an avowed knitter. I did just order 2 knitting books with that crocheting books– Debbie Bliss books, to boot, with that Crafter’s Choice membership after all, right?
