Because I’m lame…

…and because my aunt has some crazy dogs and a cat who eats wool, I’m making the afghan from a decent acrylic. But I will say this is in no small part because I never found the Saucy, and it would have cost me $200 to make the thing from the Tahki yarn. Yes, I could have ordered the Saucy online, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted it to be easy for them to wash. And if the intarsia proves too challenging, I won’t have to sweat it if I have to rip it out a couple of times.

In the meantime, I’ve learned a basketweave pattern, and I have plenty of that to do before I get to the intarsia.

  1. Nah, you’re not lame if you are doing it for practical reasons. And besides, I guess I’m a wool snob. I’m finding that it has to be really, really fine wool that isn’t scratchy that I gravitate to. Problem is, I actually like a lot of the acrylics and acrylic blends out there for that softness factor, actually. But being practical isn’t being lame.
