Round the corner!

I have found an afghan project I want to do for my aunts’ beach house. It’s a beachy, cotton afghan with basketweave squares and several intarsia designs with seashells and starfish and the like. I can start doing the basketweave squares once I can get the yarn. Definitely have it in time for Christmas, and it will make up for all the Christmases I didn’t get anything for them.

I love the idea of hand-knitting home stuff. Placemats. Doilies. Lace patterns galore; perhaps I’ll attempt a tablecloth now that I have a real dining room!

In the meantime, I’ve discovered a yarn shop lurking right around the corner from my office. Aylin’s Woolgatherer is in Loehmann’s Plaza, and I work in Falls Church! They have limited hours this month, but I am sure I can make it over there at some point. Not that I have any money for knitting projects right now anyway. But I’ve added myself to their mailing list.

In the meantime, I finished the bag I was working on. The strap came out too long, and I tried to fix it and it came out a bit messy. I might see if they can help me with shortening it properly in one of the shops; a good grafting should do the trick. But I really like the pattern; came out just the right size. I think I might do less garter stitching on it next time and try to find another stable, uniform edge stitch that doesn’t compete with st. johns wort so that it’s not so stretchy, but that’s only a bad thing for it hanging down to my knees the first time I tried to use it.

  1. That afghan sounds perfect! And I’m sure that your aunt will appreciate all the effort and thought you put into it. Glad to hear the bag is done, even if the strap is a little on the long side. You live and learn!
