That pattern is cool? What’s it comprised of/how do you do it?
The stitch itself is St. John’s Wort. See if this link takes you there. Done in the round, there’s no purling other than the slip purlwise in rows 1/3.
The pattern for the bag is pretty complicated. I got it from the knitting-pattern-a-day calendar. you knit a base in garter, then the body is done in the round in st. john’s wort, then I have a flap and a strap to do. haven’t gotten that far in figuring out what’s next as I have 5 more inches to do of rounds, and there are 144-168 stitches in each round.
But my mom was duly impressed watching me do it today, esp.. when I flubbed something up and had to fix it in front of her. She’s a veteran knitter, so she’s fascinated. We had a long talk about aran sweaters!
That’s good that your mom was fascinated by your progress, considering she’s an old pro. My mother is the total opposite– no clue, and is just fascinated that all three of her daughters are knitters, gourmet cooks, and 3 of her children (this is including my brother rather than one sister) are fairly good interior decorators on their own!
I know what you mean with feeling like you have a lot to do, even with 5 inches. I just finished the last panel of the last poncho for the triplets’ bday present. I just have to assemble 2 of the ponchos, and I’m adding tassles rather than the fun fur to the edges. Don’t have the time nor inclination to figure out the crocheting part right now. Maybe on another project.
